A Power Sealing and an Introduction to Some of Our Favorite Joburg Friends

Bob had the great blessing of sealing one of his South Africa Cape Town missionaries, Tyrone Power, to his wife Tarryn
in the Johannesburg Temple on Saturday, 12 September. The "gatehouse" building behind us is where children who are
waiting to be sealed to their parents are looked after, usually by senior missionaries who volunteer for the assignment.

Bob had the privilege of performing four live sealings in the Johannesburg Temple this week, including one of his SACTM missionaries, Tyrone Power, to his wife Tarryn on Saturday. And that night we went to the Roodepoort Stake Conference adult session and visited with five more of Bob's missionaries - Liezel Schwulst, Cieron Faerch, Wayne Muller and a senior couple, Ian and Jacqui Evans. Afterward, we enjoyed the best steaks in the world at the nearby Cattle Baron with Wayne and Tara Muller and Liezel Schwulst. Our waiter, Proud, is a church member who has moved recently to Cosmo City and doesn't know where the church is there, so we got his contact information and promised to get him information about the Cosmo City Ward. He seemed excited to get back to Church.

We thought it might be fun to include in our blog photos of some of the great new friends we have made at Dukes Court and the Area Office, as well as points in between. Here are photos of just a few of our favorites:

This is Francina, who loves to roll the r when she says her name. She is the
happiest,  most pleasant person we see in Dukes Court, next to  Martha, of
course.  The two of them just LOVE running into each other in the halls of
the fourth floor,  where she works as domestic help for a  Jewish couple in
flat 404 and walks their little furry dog every day. She is a ray of sunshine,
and she always calls Martha "My DAHLING!"

This is Isaac our car washer, who washes the cars of all the
missionary couples 3-4 times a week, while they are parked
in the car park (parking garage) and we pay him 100 rand
($8) a month, that's about 50c per wash, and he won't take
more and he won't accept it any earlier than the 30th. Our
Nissan Tiida and all the other missionary cars seem to be
always spotless!
Isaac's car washing uniform is a plastic bag,
and we know whenever he has washed our
car because he leaves both of our windscreen
(windshield) wipers sticking straight out

This is Martha with Joyce, our housekeeper, who comes in every other week
and cleans our flat immaculately, including ironing the sheets and pillowcases,
in about 5 hours, for 270 rand (less than $22) in her maid's uniform, which she
refused to wear for the photo

The morning receptionist in the Area Office is Brenda

The afternoon receptionist is Philadelphia, who was converted
to the Church in Leeds, England, by Bob's returned Cape Town
sister missionary Clio Essono Ekani!

And every day on the way home from work, we are
greeted by the smiliest beggar in Johannesburg on
the corner of Oxford and Riviera Roads. We have
called him "Smiley," but finally asked his name,
which is Alfred. So now to us he is Smiley Alfred!
He calls us "Momee" and "Dadee" and we think to
to take him an apple or orange every now and then
